Singapore’s Agrocorp enters burgeoning plant-based food market with HerbYvore

Singapore headquartered USD 3 billion commodities and trading company Agrocorp International entered the lucrative and fast growing market of plant based foods with its brand HerbYvore. In an interesting launch, guests were served meals prepared with HerbYvore products in the popular fine dining Indian restaurant Rang Mahal.

The first product unveiled at the tasting event was the Pea Paneer, a plant-based soft cheese locally manufactured in Singapore. The Pea Paneer product is available in storefronts like 26 NTUC FairPrice Finest stores and the Vegan Grocer, online platforms like NourishSg and BuzzSg, and local restaurants like Yantra, Kailash Parbat and Rang Mahal. 

Guests of the tasting event at Rang Mahal sampled Indian fusion cuisine, as well as HerbYvore’s ice cream that will be launched soon. 100 guests attended the event in two sittings following COVID protocols, including influencers, retailers, and venture capitalists, with the Minister of Communication and Information S Iswaran present as the special guest.

HerbYvore’s objective is to offer sustainable, plant-based alternatives that have positive impacts on consumers’ meal choices. As per the statement released by the company, Pea Paneer is made up of a key ingredient, the pea protein, which is produced by the company’s facilities in Canada using farm grown peas there. It is formulated with only 5 core ingredients and is minimally processed.

In collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Technology, HerbYvore is developing a suite of products as part of a research collaboration that explores the properties of plant-based proteins and harnessing them to create innovative and sustainable food products.

Agrocorp International is ambitious to expand HerbYvore’s reach to overseas markets such as India, Canada, Australia and the US where the demand for vegan and sustainable foods is strong and the company has a presence in. Flavoured and melting cheeses are being planned to release within the next 12 months, as well as a liquid egg that can replace omelets and scrambled eggs.
