He is now the costliest player bought in the IPL history, beating the record set by compatriot Pat Cummins on the same day. The Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired the Australian skipper’s services for Rs 20.50 crore (USD 2.4 million).

Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore bid for the longest time for Cummins, who ultimately went to the Orange Army.

Cummins, who had previously played for Kolkata Knight Riders, had opted out of IPL 2023 to focus on his national team for The Ashes and 50-over ODI World Cup.

This is the first time Rs. 20-crore mark was breached in IPL auction history.
