Indians abroad condemn Hindu Mahasabha’s reenactment of Gandhiji’s assassination

The abhorrent act of reenacting the assassination of the father of the nation has shocked Indians across the world. Members of the NRI community, who have been big supporters of Prime Minister Modi over the past five years, are expecting immediate action against the perpetrators.

In a disturbing video, a group of Hindu Mahasabha members led by Pooja Shakun Pandey, National Secretary, are seen reenacting Gandhiji's assassination by shooting into his effigy while chanting Nathuram Godse's name – the gunman who pulled the trigger on January 30, 1948.

While Connected to India has access to the video of the despicable act, we will not be adding it to our YouTube channel. For those of you who are unaware here is the Times Now story on the episode.

Community organisations like Indian Overseas Congress based in the US have condemned the act with an expectation of strict action. George Abraham, Vice-Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, USA, said, “Reenactment of Gandhiji’s assassination by Hindu Mahasabha leadership led by Pooja Shakun Pandey, National Secretary, is not only revolting and unpardonable but also hurts the genuine sentiment of peace-loving people everywhere,” adding, “Where is the outrage from all those who talk about anti-nationalism?”

While Indian missions across the world kicked off a two-year global celebration of Gandhiji's 150th birthday last year, which are being well received equally by Indians abroad and non-Indians alike, acts like that of Hindu Mahasabha are shocking.

“It is none other than degenerates with depraved mindsets who could participate in such a despicable act and it ought to be called out for condemnation from the civilised world. We are also waiting and watching to see how authorities who are so eager to bring Sedition charges against students who chant slogans would react to these vile actions by the extremists” the statement said.
