British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson who is on a visit to India expressed his wish to forge a free trade agreement with Indian while preparing to leave the European Union.
The Foreign Secretary who is on a two-day visit to India said that the trade between the two countries was around US$19.7 billion last year and that a free trade deal would benefit both the countries.
He also mentioned that British Prime Minister Theresa May has set out a powerful vision in her speech on January 17 on how Britain can strike trade deals with all the nations, benefiting not only European Union friends but also rest of the world.
After Theresa May's visit in November, Boris Johnson is the first British Cabinet minister to travel to India.
During Theresa May's last visit to India in November, the two countries had signed agreements on protection of intellectual property rights and on the ease of doing business.
Britain is one of the largest investors in India, among the Group of Twenty countries.
