The Ministry of Health (MOH) has reported 91 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore as of 12 pm on August 17. This takes the national tally of infections to 55,838.
The vast majority of the new cases are Work Permit holders currently under quarantine. "The Inter-agency Taskforce has completed the testing of all workers in the dormitories," said MOH in a press statement.
Currently, there are about 18,600 workers still serving out their quarantine period. "These workers will be tested when their quarantine ends, and we expect the case counts to remain high in the coming days, before tapering down thereafter.
There are no cases in the community, MOH added.
However, there are six imported cases, three of which are Singaporeans/ Permanent Residents who returned to Singapore from India on August 5, 6 and 9. Another three cases are Work Pass/ Work Permit holders currently employed in Singapore, who arrived from India, Indonesia and the USA on August 5.
All of them had been placed on 14-day Stay-Home Notice (SHN) upon arrival in Singapore, and were serving their SHN at dedicated facilities. They had been tested while serving their SHN.
