The 12th installation of Singapore's iconic Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) rally Pink Dot has been cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Monday, March 16, organisers said this is the first time in its history that Pink Dot will not be taking place physically at Hong Lim Park.
"The health and safety of our community and all Singaporeans are our foremost priority."
Slated to be held on June 27, this year's Pink Dot rally will be live streamed at 6.30pm on that day instead. There will be a line-up of performances and interactive discussions, with more details of the programme to be released at a later date.
Organisers also called on its supporters to "stand with us by lighting up your homes and workplaces (private spaces only please!) PINK".
They added, "Your pink lights will be a powerful display of love and solidarity for LGBTQ people in Singapore. They will also serve as a reminder that support for LGBTQ rights and the Freedom to Love must persevere even as we are unable to gather at Hong Lim Park.
"We hope that the spirit of Pink Dot 12 will continue to shine through from our homes, our workplaces, and our hearts."
