In continuation of his stated policy of focusing on bringing businesses and money back into the United States of America, President Donald Trump has named Anji Sinha — whom he has described as a “highly respected entrepreneur” — as his pick for US Ambassador to Singapore. His selection is subject to confirmation by the Senate.

Both CNA and The Straits Times have run the news without using any photograph of the newly named envoy — pending confirmation — as Anji Sinha appears to be very new to politics.

ST reported: “Dr Sinha appears to be relatively little known, with no presence on websites or social media. Most observers in Washington, DC, said they had not heard of Mr Trump’s nominee.”

Announcing his nominee on Truth Social on Tuesday, President Trump said: “Anji is a highly respected entrepreneur, with an incredible family. The United States’ relationship with Singapore is vital, and I have no doubt that Anji will strongly represent our nation’s interests, and put America first.”

On Anji Sinha’s predecessor, CNA reported: “The outgoing US ambassador to Singapore, Mr Jonathan Kaplan, was appointed by former president Joe Biden in July 2021. According to the embassy’s website, the current Charge d’Affaires is Casey Mace. During Mr Trump’s first presidency, the embassy in Singapore was led by a Charge d’Affaires.”
