Singapore theatre company The Necessary Stage (TNS) turns 30 this year – and it’s celebrating its 30th anniversary with a collaboration with Cake’s Artistic Director Natalie Hennedige for its brand new production Being Haresh Sharma.
Being Haresh Sharma looks at TNS’ expansive repertoire through scripts by its Resident Playwright and 2015 Cultural Medallion recipient, Haresh Sharma. It makes bold, unexpected links and associations, mapping stories and characters in ways that surface the social, political and spiritual aspects of life here in Singapore, TNS said in a press statement.
Spanning three decades, the company’s works are often devised pieces with various artists-collaborators, and directed by TNS’ Artistic Director and Cultural Medallion recipient, Alvin Tan.
The production brings it all together with unexpected and exciting performance energy; sparking new ways of looking at his words and of experiencing performance and theatre.
Being Haresh Sharma features a talented ensemble, some of whom have journeyed together with TNS since its inception. The play stars veteran actors in the local theatre scene; Jean Ng, Julius Foo and Karen Tan, the award-winning Siti Khalijah Zainal, together with acclaimed actors from Malaysia, Jo Kukathas and Ghafir Akbar.
Tickets for Being Haresh Sharma will be available via SISTIC from February 3, 2017 and are priced between $28 to $45. Performances will run from 29 June to 2 July 2017 at the Drama Centre Theatre, Level 3, National Library.
