Singapore issues travel advisory to Kandy, Sri Lanka

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Singapore has issued a travel advisory to Kandy Sri Lanka, in view of the 10-day state of emergency imposed by the Sri Lankan government.

The state of emergency was effective from March 6, 2018.

Security forces in Sri Lanka have been deployed to maintain law and order. "In view of media reports of communal clashes in Kandy, Singaporeans are advised to defer all non-essential travels to Kandy until the situation stabilises," said MFA. 

"If you are already in Kandy, Sri Lanka, you are advised to exercise vigilance and take all necessary precautions for your personal safety, monitor the news closely and heed the instructions of the local authorities," MFA added. Singaporeans are advised to avoid protests and large public gatherings. "You should also purchase comprehensive travel insurance and be familiar with the terms and coverage."
