Shah Rukh Khan fans welcome Red Chillies Netflix deal

Millions of Shah Rukh Khan's NRI and international fans will be thrilled to learn that his movies will now be available on Netflix.

Talking about SRK's fan following in Malaysia, Renuka Reveendran, General Manager, Antenna Entertainments distributors of Hindi and Tamil movies in the region says, "Shah Rukh has a tremendous following in Malaysia. Clearly, he is number one among the Khans (Salman Khan and Aamir Khan). Once we had booked an entire hall to screen one of his movies for his fan club. His last two films Dilwale and Chennai Express did very well in Malaysia." Antenna had distributed Dear Zindagi in Malaysia and are now busy with the SRK's next release Raees.

Recognising SRK's super fandom in Malaysia, Dilwale's super hit song in Gerua was translated in Malay sung by Malaysian artists Aliff Aziz and Kilafairy. 

 

As per the latest reports by a leading daily, Shah Rukh Khan's home production Red Chillies Entertainment has signed a deal with on-demand streaming website Netflix. According to the deal, films starring the Bollywood superstar, both old and new one will be exclusively available to the platform's around 86 million members globally.

Netflix with its high-profile international productions is very popular in Singapore and SEA. Dancer, choreographer, and SRK fan, Hasika Jagannath, says, "This is great news! I am thrilled that we will be able to watch all his movies on demand. We watch a lot of international programs on Netflix and feel there is a dearth of Hindi movies. It's awesome that favourites like 'DDLJ' and newer titles like 'Dear Zindagi' will be available for repeat viewing." 

Shah Rukh Khan who has always been working on the idea of making Bollywood films and the industry global has issued a statement about the deal. An elated SRK, says, "Red Chillies is surging ahead in global entertainment and for the first time, our great stories are going global on Netflix all at once and crossing all geographical barriers, waiting to be discovered all over the world. No more waiting for our fans wherever they are."

The first film that has made to Netflix is Dear Zindagi.

The deal is said to give Netflix members, both in India and around the world exclusive access to the Red Chillies Entertainment films that will hit the Indian theatres within the next three years.

"Shah Rukh Khan is the most sought-after actor in the Indian film industry and has played a huge role in bringing Indian cinema to the world stage. His moniker 'King Khan' speaks to his status as a cultural icon and to the incredible popularity of his films among audiences worldwide," says Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix.

The first film that has made to Netflix is 'Dear Zindagi,' which hit the theatres on November 25. The film that also stars Alia Bhatt along with Shah Rukh Khan is directed by Gauri Shinde.

Other films that are available on Netflix include – 'Happy New Year', 'Dilwale' and 'Om Shanti Om'.
