About eleven people have been injured in a chemical leak that occurred at a Kallang Way factory today afternoon. Firefighters have contained the mishap.
Relating about the incident, Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) tweeted that about 11 workers have been conveyed to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).
Earlier, in a Facebook post, SCDF said, “Nine workers were conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital by the SCDF in a conscious and stable condition.”
It also added, “The incident is contained within a sealed room in the premises. The leak has been shut off. Two fire engines, one fire bike, three support vehicles and two ambulances were dispatched to the factory at 166 Kallang Way, the address for RF 360, an electronics manufacturer.”
One of the company’s engineers told Today that the alarm for the leak, which took place on the third floor, was sounded at about 12:30 pm. SCDF has urged the public to stay away from the area.
In its final update at around 3.48pm, SCDF said they were alerted to the incident at about 1.40pm.
They said the leak was shut off prior to their arrival by the in-built safety system on the premises.
According to SCDF, its HazMat detectors “show no reading of the chemical vapour in the production room". The surrounding environment is also safe with no traces of the chemical in the air, they added.
