Hitman Rohit Sharma has become the fastest to reach 7000 ODI runs as an opener, overtaking Hashim Amla and Sachin Tendulkar.

It took Rohit 137 innings to reach the milestone, with former South African opener Amla achieving the record in 147 innings and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar taking 160.

Rohit recently won the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year award for 2019, which was a stellar year for him with 7 ODI centuries, including 5 at the ICC World Cup.

The 32-year-old achieved the milestone during the 2nd ODI against Australia in Rajkot. Winning the toss, Australia put India in to bat first. At the start of the match Rohit needed 23 runs to achieve the record. He made 42 off 44 balls before being dismissed LBW to Adam Zampa.
