New York: Two adults die, several school students injured, after bus heading to band camp event crashes

The bus was taking 40 band members from Farmingdale High School to a camp in Greeley, PA, when it suddenly careened off Interstate 84 near Wawayanda in Orange County and tumbled 50 feet down a ravine shortly before 1:20 p.m, reported New York Post.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul posted on X: "I’ve been briefed on the tragic accident in Orange County involving a bus filled with high school students."

She said: "At my direction,@nyspolice & @NYSDHSES are onsite to assist local emergency responders."

She said: "Our hearts are with all who are impacted by this horrific situation."

The fatal wreck appeared to have been caused by “a faulty front tire,” according to the governor as quoted by the New York Post.

The deceased were identified as Gina Pellettiere, 43 and Beatrice Ferrari, 77.

There were several serious injuries, including five critical, Lt. Colonel Richard L. Mazzone, of the New York State Police, was quoted as saying by CNN.

Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus prayed for the victims of the accident.

Steven Neuhaus told CNN: "I would also like to thank all of the first responders for their immediate response, service and dedication.”
