‘Lagaan’ art director Nitin Desai kills self

Celebrated art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai, who has worked in a number of popular Indian films, including the Academy nominated Lagaan, took his own life on Wednesday, media reports said.

He was 58 years old.

Desai breathed his last at his own ND Studios in Karjat, Maharashtra.

The art director has worked with prominent filmmakers such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ashutosh Gowariker et al.

He has worked in Bhansali's 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' (1999), Devdas (2002), Gowariker's 'Lagaan' (2001), 'Jodhaa Akbar' (2008), among others. (Paraj da ei line ta block quote kore debe.)

Desai also won the National Film Award for Best Production Design, erstwhile National Film Award for Best Art Direction, four times.

While his first feature film, Bhookamp, released in 1993, Desai gained attention for his work in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's '1942: A Love Story'.

He had also designed two sets for the 2008 multiple Oscar winning film 'Slumdog Millionaire'.
