Kalaivani and Aarthi channel strength and grace for the Raga 2020 Odissi performance

Few minutes into the shoot and one can make out the powerful chemistry between Odissi dancers, Kalaivani Kumareswaran and Aarthi Subhash.

“At once taut and masculine then soft and feminine,” is the way they describe the ‘Grit and Grace’ of Odissi in their upcoming sensual dance performance called Quintessence - An Odissi Dance Duet for the Raga 2020 series by Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay.

Both erstwhile Bharatnatyam dancers will be performing Quintessence to live music by artists from India, choreographed by Guru Ratikant Mohapatra, dancer, percussionist, and archivist of Odissi dance. Son of Guru Padma Vibhushan Kelucharan Mohapatra, the first person to receive the Padma Vibhushan from Odisha.

Guru Kelucharan the legendary dancer, guru, and exponent of Odissi dance, is credited with the revival and growing the popularity of Odissi in the 20th century.
