Rohit has been named captain in absence of Hardik Pandya, who is recovering from the injury which he suffered during the World Cup.

The Men’s Selection Committee met in New Delhi on Thursday to pick Team India’s squad for the upcoming all-format tour of South Africa.

KL Rahul will lead India in the three-match ODI series in the South African tour in absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who has been rested.

Virat Kohli will miss both the T20I and ODI series as he has asked for a break. He is likely to join the team for the two-match Test series against South Africa.

“Mr. Rohit Sharma and Mr. Virat Kohli had requested the Board for a break from the white-ball leg of the tour. Mr. Mohd. Shami is currently undergoing medical treatment and his availability is subject to fitness.  Mr Abhimanyu Easwaran’s availability is subject to fitness,” the BCCI said in a release.

Sanju Samson and Rajat Patidar have been picked in the ODI team.

Suryakumar Yadav, who is presently leading Team India in the T20I series against Australia, has been rested from the ODI squad.

The Indian team will participate in three T20Is, three ODIs and two Test matches. During the tour, India A will also play two four-day matches against South Africa A and one inter-squad three-day match.
