Happy 15th birthday to Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay!

Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay turns 15 today and they have invited everyone to visit one of the world’s busiest arts centres to see it in a new light.

The southern Singapore coast, now known as Marina Bay, was selected for extensive land reclamation in the 1970s, to accomodate a new city centre with new amenities such as Esplanade.

Opened on October 12, 2002, the venue which has hosted over 37,000 performances, packing its venues with 26 million audiences and drawing 92 million visitors since its inception.

From October 12 to 31, the number “15” will be emblazoned on the centre’s twin domes every evening. Thousands of dome lights will create this and other designs in a series of special dome light-ups ringing in this milestone for Esplanade.
