IIFT conclave kicks off tomorrow; to focus on changing global business landscape

Coinciding with the visit of the new Director of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), Dr Manoj Pant to Singapore, IIFT Alumni Association Singapore is organising an international business meet to showcase the institute’s achievements and potential.

The IIFT International Business Conclave on ‘Disruptors of Global Business Landscape – Politics, Business, and Technology’ is all set to kick off from 7 pm tomorrow at the NTUC Center, One Marina Boulevard.

The new Director of IIFT Prof Manoj Pant is visiting Singapore from September 28-30 to meet the alumni. During his visit, he will also be calling on the High Commissioner of India in Singapore, H.E. Mr Jawed Ashraf, senior officials from IE Singapore, CEOs of leading Indian companies with offices here as well as business leaders and professional in Singapore.  

Speaking about the conclave and his visit to Singapore, Dr Pant said, “We want various people across the business sectors to ‘meet IIFT’. The institute is a major exporter of services from India. To me, Singapore is much more important to India than China. Because of the nature of their economy, they are on the cutting edge. In terms of financial services, they are the capital of Asia, and every major foreign company in the world has a regional office in the island nation, which is why IIFT goes there.”

​IIFT was established in 1963 by the Government of India to train international business and trade professionals. Over 50 years, it has grown to become a premier management school. Many global trading companies in Singapore and around the world will have IIFTians in leadership positions, and IIFTians work in banking and financial services sector as well as the IT industry in the island nation.

KV Rao, Resident Director of Tata Sons in ASEAN and an alumnus of IIFT, said, “In a liberal and intertwined world, international trade was the key lever that kept multilateralism and economic development going for decades, times are changing now – social, economic, technological and political changes seem to challenge this order today.” Rao is set to be a keynote speaker at the conclave. 

Mrigank Ojha, president of IIFT Alumni Association, said, "It is an opportunity to listen to eminent speakers share their views on how recent global political and economic developments along with IOT, AI/WATSON, other new technologies will impact global business. Participants can learn from real examples of technology adoption and what's happening below the cloud of technology jargon and hype.”

IIFT Alumni Association Singapore is a registered society in Singapore with nearly 100 members who work in senior positions in leading banks and other financial institutions, international business houses, agribusiness, mineral and energy resource companies, as well as other sectors important to Singapore and global economy.
