Hri Kumar appointed as Deputy Attorney-General of Singapore

Singapore government has appointed Hri Kumar Nair as the Deputy Attorney-General and Judicial Commissioner Kannan Ramesh as High Court Judge, announced PMO in a statement.

Hri Kumar is a distinguished legal luminary of Singapore having a rich experience of 25 years. He will be Deputy Attorney-General for a period of three years effective from March 1 onwards.

A press release issued by PMO said, “He has acted in a wide range of litigation and arbitration matters for major international and local companies and financial institutions. He has also advised on regulatory issues and led teams to investigate fraud and other issues which have arisen in both private and listed companies."  

He was also a Member of Parliament from 2006 to 2015 representing Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC.

Meanwhile, Judicial Commissioner Kannan Ramesh has been appointed as the High Court Judge of Singapore. His appointment will be effective from April 1, 2017.

Ramesh was the Managing Partner of Messrs Tan Kok Quan Partnership from 2008 until his appointment as Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court on 22 May 2015. While on the Bench, Judicial Commissioner Ramesh presided over civil matters including the corporate restructuring of Pacific Andes Resources Development Limited and its associates, Swiber Holdings Ltd and its associates and Swissco Holdings Limited, the shareholders dispute concerning the Capitol Development, and several significant arbitration matters.   

“In addition to his adjudication responsibilities, Judicial Commissioner Ramesh co-chaired the Committee to strengthen Singapore as an International Centre for Debt Restructuring to enhance Singapore’s attractiveness as a centre for international debt restructuring. He is also a member of the working group on the Rules of Court, the Singapore International Commercial Court’s Development Committee and Standing Rules Committee, the Singapore Academy of Law’s Committee on the Promotion of Singapore Law, and the Singapore Academy of Law’s Law Reform Committee,” said PMO in a statement.
