A Hindu shrine in Queensway has been finally relocated to Upper Buki Timah Road in Singapore after five years of resisting vacation of the premises.
The shrine Sri Thandavaalam Muneeswaran Alayam, earlier located at the intersection of Queensway and Portsdown Avenue sat on a land not zoned for religious use and was occupying the land illegally after KTMB rail services ceased operations. It was located on the land along the Rail Corridor.
However, temple authorities maintain that it is only a temporary shelter and they are still in discussions with the officers seeking a permanent place to house the deities.
Shrine’s treasurer Adaikalam Annandhurai said, "We shifted the deities from Queensway to Upper Bukit Timah. It's only a temporary shelter and we need to pay rent.”
He further added, “And it was very difficult for us to take out the deities from the old place because of the hard concrete. I'm so sad we don't have a permanent place to place the deities."
The Sri Thandavaalam Muneeswaran Alayam shrine will be open to devotees from 5.30 pm until 9 pm daily, but it is closed on Sunday.
The Sri Thandavaalam Muneeswaran Alayam shrine was erected in the 1990s by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) railway workers who used to live at the quarters situated at 451A Queensway.
