Hindu Endowments Board marks golden jubilee by giving back to society

This year is a special one for the Hindu Endowments Board (HEB), which is celebrating its golden jubilee with a host of events planned throughout the year.

On May 1, 2019, which is a public holiday for Singapore, HEB marked its 50th Anniversary by giving back to the society.

To mark this milestone occasion, all HEB-administered Temples – Sri Mariamman Temple, Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple, Sri Sivan Temple and Sri Vairavimada Kaliamman Temple – had free archanai (religious service), annathanam (food service) and distribution of sweets for all devotees.

In Singapore, Hindus are a minority, constituting about 5.1 percent of adult Singapore citizens and permanent residents, according to official figures in 2010. Almost all Hindus in Singapore are ethnic Indians, with some who have married into Hindu families.

The Management Committee members and volunteers from Sri Mariamman Temple visited Sunlove Home on the morning of Labour Day and presented two oxygen concentrators for its residents. Sri Mariamman Temple is Singapore’s oldest Hindu temple, as well as a National Monument.

Residents at Sunlove Home were entertained by dance performances, a magic show and they even enthusiastically participated in a karaoke session. Volunteers from the Temple also served lunch to the residents.
