Google job search tool launches in Singapore, first in Southeast Asia

Google has launched its new job search tool, Google for Jobs in Singapore – which is directly built into Google search.

Launched on Thursday, August 2, it works on both desktop and mobile.

The search result pulls job listings from more than 1,500 sites including MyCareersFuture.sg, FastJobs, JobsCentral, LinkedIn, Monster, Payscale and Randstad.

However, application for the job roles have to be done directly through the website that first posted the position.

The launch in Singapore is its first in Southeast Asia, according to a report by CNA.

When users  search for a job role or skill, a special module will pop out – displaying a snapshot of the positions available. It will include information such as when and where the positions were posted.

The module can be expanded to display more information such as location, whether it is full-time or part-time, as well as links to reviews and ratings of the employer gleaned from Glassdoor and Payscale.

“There’s a clear need from Singaporeans to be able to go online to find a job. Job seekers already turn to Google Search when they’re looking for a job, and in the past year we’ve seen 14 per cent growth in mobile searches for jobs and career queries compared to the previous year,” said Ms Joy Xi, product manager at Google Search.
