Five in Singapore taken ill after consuming fruit juice containing steroids

Five patients, including a child, have developed serious steroid-induced side effects after consuming fruit juice that contain potent medicinal ingredients.

In an advisory, Health Sciences Authority (HSA) warned members of the public against purchasing or consuming two fruit juices: ‘Jus Al Sunnah Gold 1001 Khasiat Jus Alternatif’ and ‘Jus Al Sunnah 1001 Khasiat Jus Alternatif’. 

The patients suffered from illnesses such as Cushing’s syndrome and uncontrolled diabetes after taking the fruit juice.

HSA also advised anyone who have taken ‘Jus Al Sunnah Gold 1001 Khasiat Jus Alternatif’ or ‘Jus Al Sunnah 1001 Khasiat Jus Alternatif’ to consult a doctor, as the products have been tested to contain potent steroids.

Sudden discontinuation of steroids without proper medical supervision can cause serious withdrawal symptoms such as fatigue, confusion and low blood pressure. This is especially when these products have been taken for more than a few weeks.

Sellers are also ordered to stop selling ‘Jus Al Sunnah Gold 1001 Khasiat Jus Alternatif’ and ‘Jus Al Sunnah 1001 Khasiat Jus Alternatif’ immediately.
