ESPN appoints Joyee Biswas as Head of Southeast Asia

After exiting the ESPN Star Sports JV, when Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp bought ESPN’s 50 per cent stake in 2012, Disney’s ESPN had started the process of re-entering Asian markets last year. They continue to consolidate the business by hiring experienced hands and realigning existing teams.

Newest hire Joyee Biswas comes to ESPN with years of experience across different brands including the erstwhile ESPN Star Sports JV. He comes on board as the Head of Southeast Asia business.

Biswas will be based in ESPN’s offices in Singapore and report to Mike Morrison, Vice President and Managing Director, ESPN APAC, based in Shanghai.

Joyee has worked, managing markets across Asia, in leadership roles in the broadcast, digital and print media, over the last 15 years. He comes to ESPN from Eleven Sports network, a sports channel found by Andrea Radrizzani of MP Silva fame.

Prior to joining Eleven Sports Network, he worked with ESPN STAR Sports (ESS), was moved to FOX International at the time of ESPN’s exit at that time. Joyee moved to Singtel from Fox International where he looked after sports content and programming for multiple linear and non-linear channels and platforms. He has also worked with India’s leading English daily the Hindustan Times and IT education company NIIT.

Joyee brings a broad range of experience to ESPN having worked in the affiliate and advertising sales, business development, content acquisition, programming, content management and partnership management.

Joyee is an engineer with a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kolkata, one of the leading business schools in Asia.
