Dance India Asia Pacific kicks off; innovative programmes on offer

The much-anticipated Dance India Asia Pacific (DIAP) kicked off over the weekend with an inauguration ceremony at the Black Box at Goodman Arts Centre in Singapore.

DIAP 2019 will feature dance training programmes, conference sessions, talks, book readings, film screenings and performances. “We have a lot of repeat attendees, so we try to provide them with something new and interesting to expand their imagination,” said Aravinth Kumarasamy, Artistic Director of Apsaras Arts.

A special dance heritage exhibition titled ‘Credo of a Dancer’ is one of the highlights for this year’s programme. Created by the Museum of Performing Arts in collaboration with the Balasaraswati Institute of Performing Arts, this archival exhibition tells the story of dance legend T Balasaraswati – one of the foremost exponents of the Bharatanatyam style of classical dance in 20th century India.
