Delhi Police capture Indian gangster in Mexico with FBI’s help

Deepak Boxer, one of Delhi's most-wanted gangsters, has been arrested in Mexico and will be brought to India later this week. A special Delhi Police team caught the gangster in Mexico with the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

"The gangster will be brought to India in a day or two. He is among the most wanted gangsters of Delhi-NCR, who fled the country on a fake passport," said an officer.

This is the first time that Delhi Police have arrested a gangster outside India.

Boxer, who was absconding in many cases including the murder of a builder in Delhi's Civil Lines, was apprehended by a Special Cell team, Delhi Police sources said in a release.

The builder, Amit Gupta,  was shot several times on a busy road in Civil Lines. Police say that Deepak, one of the prime suspects, used a fake passport to leave the country. He took a flight to Mexico on January 29 from Kolkata under the alias Ravi Antil. A reward of INR 3 lakh had been announced for his capture.

In a Facebook post, Boxer had claimed that Gupta was murdered by him and that the motive for the murder was not extortion at all, but revenge.

He also claimed that the realtor was associated with a rival gang, Tillu Tajpuria gang. He said that Amit Gupta was the financier of that gang.

Deepak Boxer was the head of the Gogi gang, a position he assumed after Jitendra Gogi was murdered in 2021. Jitender Gogi was allegedly shot by gangsters of the Tillu gang, who entered the court complex dressed as lawyers.

Deepak had come into the limelight when he freed Gogi from police custody in Haryana seven years ago. He was also involved in attacking police personnel at Delhi's Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital two years ago and helped Fajja flee from police custody.

Fajja, a wanted criminal, was killed on March 28, 2021 following an exchange of fire with a Special Cell team at a flat in the Rohini area. Fajja had escaped from custody on March 25 after a gunfight broke out at a government hospital here.
