The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 884 fresh COVID-19 cases as of 12 pm on May 12, taking Singapore’s tally of infections past the 24,000-mark.
The vast majority of the new cases are Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories and three are Singaporeans/ Permanent Residents. There are no imported cases, said MOH in a press statement.
MOH added that the number of new cases from the testing of workers with acute respiratory infection (ARI) symptoms and their contacts remains stable. "The number of daily cases continues to rise as we are also testing the workers who are well and asymptomatic, as part of our process to verify and test the status of every worker."
Meanwhile, 626 more cases of COVID-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.
The total number of cases in Singapore is now 24,671 with 21 deaths, the most recent being reported by MOH on Monday.
The number of infections had risen by 486 on Monday, with the ministry saying that the lower number was because one of the laboratories was recalibrating its apparatus for one of the test kits.
The Ministry had said on Sunday that one of the laboratories had reported 33 false positives.
