With Christmas just days away and with the entire year having gone by under the shadow of COVID-19, the World Health Organization was faced with a unique question at a recent media briefing – will Santa be able to deliver gifts despite the raging coronavirus pandemic?
WHO Technical Head Dr Maria Van Kerkhove addressed children’s concerns regarding the novel coronavirus impacting Santa Clause’s health, saying, “I understand the concern for Santa because he is of older age. I can tell you that Santa Claus is immune to this virus.”
She added that WHO had been told by a number of world leaders that they had relaxed quarantine measures and would allow Santa to enter their airspace.
“So he will be able to travel in and out of the airspace and be able to deliver presents to children,” she said.
However, she warned that it was still important for people to maintain social distance and stay safe during the holiday season.
“I think it is very important that all the children of the world understand that physical distancing by Santa Claus and also of the children themselves must be strictly enforced,” Kerkhove said.
