Virender Sehwag visits Singapore school

International cricketer Virender Sehwag gave an encouraging lecture at Global Indian International School (GIIS) Leadership Lecture Series held at the East Coast campus, telling students there is no shortcut to success.

Talking to a packed auditorium on Mar 24, Sehwag shared his journey as a small-town boy to a swashbuckling, record-breaking cricketer with students. He also encouraged them to believe in their dreams and treat each opportunity with equal zeal and hard work.

“Your first opportunity can be also your last,” he said in his keynote address which was streamed live and watched by parents and students of GIIS across middle east and Asia. Sehwag advised students to do their best in every situation – be it academics or sports.

GIIS has introduced sports analytics in its new state-of-the-art SMART Campus in Punggol in sports like basketball to enhance performances of its student players. Scholarships in sports are also offered by the school.  Sehwag holds multiple records including the fastest triple century in the history of international cricket. He is one of four batsmen in the world to have ever surpassed 300 twice in Test cricket.

The GIIS Leadership Lecture Series (LLS), which invites influential and distinguished personalities from around the world to share insights on their experiences and real-world issues in an interactive talk with students.

More than 1000 students from GIIS schools across 7 countries ­– Vietnam, UAE, Thailand, India, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore watched the talk live.
