United States President Donald Trump has announced that more weapons will be sent to Ukraine, as the country faces increasing pressure from intensified Russian attacks. The announcement came from the White House on Monday (local time) shortly after Russia claimed new territorial gains in Ukraine.

The decision follows a brief pause in American arms shipments to Kyiv, which had caused concern among Ukrainian officials. The delay in support came at a time when Ukraine is experiencing some of the most severe missile and drone strikes since the start of the war more than three years ago. This pause had prompted urgent requests from Ukraine for clarification and reassurance.
President Trump acknowledged the difficult situation on the battlefield, noting the scale and intensity of Russian strikes. The fresh assurance of military aid includes primarily defensive weapons, aimed at helping Ukraine deal with the ongoing attacks. This move signals Washington’s continued backing for Kyiv, despite recent uncertainties over the consistency of support.
Russia’s recent battlefield announcement added pressure to the situation. Moscow claimed the capture of a village in Ukraine’s central Dnipropetrovsk region, marking the first such gain there after months of offensive operations. This advance was reportedly preceded by a wave of drone and missile attacks, which targeted Ukraine’s military recruitment centres.
In response, Ukraine launched a retaliatory drone strike on a Russian ammunition factory located in the Moscow region. This action highlights Ukraine’s efforts to maintain both defensive and counter-offensive operations despite the ongoing pressure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the developments by announcing preparations for future strategic meetings aimed at boosting international cooperation. He mentioned that Ukraine’s defence ministry is working with partners like the UK and Germany to keep discussions under the Ramstein format active and productive in the coming months. These meetings are expected to play a key role in strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities and resilience.
Zelenskyy also drew attention to Russia’s growing use of Iranian-made drones, known as “Shahed” drones, in its military operations. He stated that Russia appears to be increasingly dependent on these drones, and highlighted the importance of international support in countering such threats.
The renewed US commitment to send more weapons to Ukraine comes at a critical time, as the conflict continues to evolve on both the military and diplomatic fronts.
