UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson tests positive for COVID-19

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tweeted to say that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

“Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus,” tweeted Johnson on Friday.

He added that he is in self-isolation at 10 Downing Street and will continue to lead the government’s efforts to fight the novel coronavirus outbreak via video conference.

The UK had over 11,500 confirmed cases of the virus as of March 27, with over 550 deaths. Earlier this week, Prince Charles had also tested positive for COVID-19.

Johnson is the second major world leader to go into COVID-19 related isolation. Canadian PM Justin Trudeau tested negative for the virus but is in isolation after his wife tested positive.
