UK-India week 2019 in London: The event line-up

The second edition of the UK-India week will be held at Westminster House in London from June 24-28. The event kicks off with India Day at the UK Parliament and ends with the UK India Awards, honouring Indian and British firms and entrepreneurs for their achievements over the past year.

Organised by the India Inc Group, a media firm based in London, the discussions are expected to be centred around the impact on India-UK trade post-Brexit.

Here’s a breakdown of the events scheduled for the week.

June 24 2019, UK Parliament, Westminster

UK-India Week 2019 will stage the first-ever ‘India Day’ in Westminster, a full day of debate and engagement between business and political leaders of both nations. The day will begin with a debate on ‘India’s Emerging Global Soft Power’ followed by a VIP lunch, debates on the topic of ‘Political Perspectives: Priorities & Policies’ and two separate Parliamentary roundtable discussions featuring frontbench spokespeople from the Labour and Conservative Parties. It concludes with an evening reception to launch the third Edition of the UK-India 100 Most Influential, featuring a list of pioneers, thought leaders and influencers of both nations.

June 25-27 2019, De Vere Latimer, Buckinghamshire

An annual global leadership meeting, the India Inc Leaders’ Summit is a two-day exchange convening business leaders, changemakers and entrepreneurs to enhance collaboration. Tackling critical areas of trade, investment and partnership over two days of debate and dialogue, senior global leaders will talk about the future of global India and bilateral trade with the UK post-Brexit.

This event is held in the heart of Buckinghamshire and includes the popular Global Investors’ Conclave, six business and policy forums, standalone keynote speeches and panel discussions mapping the future of global Indian business.

Speakers at the summit include HE Ruchi Ghanshyam, High Commissioner of India to the UK, Mohit Joshi, president, Infosys, Dr Vijay Chauthaiwale, head of foreign affairs for the BJP and Crispin Simon, Trade Commissioner, India and South Asia.

The UK-India Awards, launched in 2017 by then-UK foreign secretary and current PM candidate Boris Johnson, will conclude the week-long events. It is an event celebrating the partnership between the UK and India. In its third year, the UK-India Awards 2019 brings together over 300 senior global leaders and changemakers from the world of business, technology, innovation, politics, diplomacy, media, arts and culture around the world.

Indian startups like Ola and Oyo, which have been on an expansion mode in the UK, are among some of the key names on the shortlist for the UK-India Awards this year.

The awards are being judged by an all-women jury for the first time and cover a wide range of sectors including business, tech, trade, and social impact.
