Trump claims Pak–Afghan conflict would be ‘easy one’ to solve, his ‘number nine’

US President Donald Trump has reiterated his claim of having “solved” multiple global conflicts and said that bringing peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan would be his next goal. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said resolving the long-standing tensions between the two neighbouring countries would be “an easy one” for him if he chose to focus on it.

“Although I do understand that Pakistan attacked, or there is an attack going on with Afghanistan. That’s an easy one for me to solve if I have to solve it. In the meantime, I have to run the USA, but I love solving wars,” he told reporters.

The president said his record in ending conflicts across different parts of the world has not received the recognition it deserves. He claimed that he had helped settle eight wars during his tenure, including between India and Pakistan, though his assertion about mediating peace between the two South Asian neighbours has been rejected several times by New Delhi.

India maintains that the understanding on halting hostilities along the Line of Control was reached through direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the Indian and Pakistani armies.

Trump also expressed disappointment that his efforts to end wars had not earned him the Nobel Peace Prize. “I solved eight wars. Go to Rwanda and the Congo, and talk about India and Pakistan. Look at all of the wars that we solved, and every time I solved, when they said, ‘If you solve the next one, you’re going to get the Nobel Prize.’ I didn’t get a Nobel Prize. Somebody got it who is a very nice woman. I don’t know who she is, but she was very generous. I don’t care about all that stuff. I just care about saving lives. But this (Pak-Afghan conflict) will be number nine,” he said.

The president added that his administration’s focus on peace efforts has saved lives and reduced global instability. “So, to the best of my knowledge, we’ve never had a president who solved one war. Not one war. Bush started a war… But I saved tens of millions of lives,” Trump said.

Trump’s remarks come as tensions persist along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where clashes have been reported in recent weeks. His comments also revive his earlier claims about mediating between India and Pakistan — statements that India’s Ministry of External Affairs has consistently dismissed as inaccurate.
