In an X post, the Buddhist spiritual leader wrote: “On the occasion of my 90th birthday, I understand that well-wishers and friends in many places, including Tibetan communities, are gathering for celebrations. I particularly appreciate the fact that many of you are using the occasion to engage in initiatives that highlight the importance of compassion, warm-heartedness, and altruism.”

Dalai Lama confirms successor will be chosen by Gaden Phodrang Trust
In his statement, the 14th Dalai Lama referred to a message he had given in 2011, in which he had said that the continuation of the institution of the Dalai Lama would depend on the wishes of the Tibetan people and other followers of Tibetan Buddhism.
