Nearly eight in ten Singaporeans, or 77 per cent of them, are willing to take a pay cut to get more time off from work.
In a survey published by Brand Expedia, it was found that Singapore has risen up the ranks of countries that are ‘vacation-deprived’.
Even when they are on holiday, more than half of the survey’s Singapore respondents said they would stay connected to work through their devices. The survey also revealed that over 50 per cent of them take fewer days of leave than they were entitled to.
In Expedia’s 2018 Vacation Deprivation Study, Singapore has been ranked sixth out of the 19 markets surveyed, according to local media reports. The country rose one spot from seventh position in 2017.
Almost 90 per cent of respondents said they felt that they deserve more vacation days. The survey states that a key reason for Singaporeans not taking time off for holidays is because their bosses said no.
Meanwhile, India was found to be the most vacation-deprived among the 19 countries surveyed, followed by South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, France, Singapore, Thailand, Italy and the US. Australia, Canada and Japan were the least vacation-deprived nations as per the report, which surveyed 11,000 full-time working adults across the 19 markets, including 300 respondents from Singapore.
