Singapore to use world’s first trademark registration mobile app

Singapore has introduced the world’s first mobile app for trademark registration.

Developed by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), the app named IPOS Go will allow businesses to file their trademarks directly with IPOS via their mobile devices.

The app offers a simplified user interface that offers a seamless and fuss-free application experience which will reduce the registration process to less than ten minutes, from the current average of 45 to 60 minutes.

In Singapore, trademark applications have increased by 30 per cent over the last five years. The speed and ease of filing will benefit enterprises who are building their brands to differentiate themselves from competitors, IPOS said in a press release.

Applicants can also track their registration status, be notified of important updates, or file for trademark renewals via the app.

The app also integrates artificial intelligence to enhance searches for similar trademarks on the IPOS register. This can prevent applicants from filing for trademarks that are too similar to existing ones.
