Seven Indian cities — including the national capital — have made it to the list of the ‘Top 100 City Destinations’ of 2019, according to the latest report by UK-based market research provider Euromonitor International.

While Delhi currently features as the 11th city on the list, it is expected to take eighth place in the rankings.

“Delhi currently ranks 11th and is forecast to increase its ranking up to 8th place in 2019. It is witnessing rapid development in its tourism infrastructure, having a world-class airport and is focusing on luxury, medical, sports and cultural tourism,” said the report.

For Singapore, growth in the number of tourists buoyed the island city to remain in the top five. Visitor arrivals rose by 5.3% YoY in 2018, driven by increased regional travel and strong growth in the cruise sector, said Rabia Yasmeen, senior analyst and project lead travel at Euromonitor International.

However, it lost one place in the rankings as other cities in Asia ramped up their competitiveness.

Hong Kong and Bangkok continue to lead the list and are expected to remain in the top spot in 2019, despite ongoing social unrest in the former. London and Macau ranked third and fourth, respectively.

Euromonitor International’s Top 100 City Destinations research highlighted the top 100 cities based on 2018 international tourist arrivals data and forecast the numbers for 2019.
