Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said India-New Zealand FTA talks focused on goods access, services, investment, and economic cooperation.
India did not do trade agreements in a hurry or with a “gun to our head”, said Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on October 24, speaking at the Berlin Global Dialogue (BGD 2025) in Germany.
The minister’s overseas visit also includes Qatar and ends with the G20 trade ministers’ meet in South Africa. There, he will have a discussion with European Union (EU) Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič.
FTA with EFTA countries, which was finalised in March 2024, will come into effect from October 1, 2025, said Piyush Goyal on Monday.
Speaking of the India-European Union (EU) partnership, Goyal added that respect for democracy and rule of law and similarity of views on fair trade will help the trade to grow exponentially.
Goyal met Shailendra Singh and Rohit Agarwal of leading venture capital and growth investment firm Peak XV Partners, which was formerly known as Sequoia Capital India & SEA.
