Runway on the Waves unveils floating fashion showcase in Singapore

Singapore witnessed a remarkable evening on August 24, as the iconic Fu Ning, the largest Chinese wooden sailing vessel, became the venue for a unique fashion and networking event titled Runway on the Waves.

Hosted at Raffles Marina and organised by Tatva Productions Pte. Ltd., the show brought together the worlds of fashion, culture, and business in a setting that was as unusual as it was impressive.

Held entirely on the historic ship, the event created a dramatic atmosphere with its open-air setup and twilight views of Singapore’s skyline. The crimson sails of the Fu Ning and the surrounding ocean made for a striking backdrop as models walked the red carpet runway built along the ship’s deck. With the sound of the sea and the evening breeze adding to the mood, the experience stood out for its immersive and cinematic quality.

Five fashion designers showcased their collections during the evening, offering a diverse and rich display of creativity.

The lineup included Nidhi Jain Kumar Designs, known for classic couture with a modern touch; Evon Ong, who brought contemporary silhouettes with a bold edge; Silver Petals, which featured romantic and finely crafted ensembles; Nayyab by Arti Mittra, presenting intricate chikankari pieces ideal for formal wear; and Kapatika Wardrobe by Savita Singh, with eclectic designs blending tradition and modernity. Each label contributed its own visual language, making the runway a reflection of varied style sensibilities and cultural influences.

While fashion remained the core attraction, the event also served as a high-end networking platform. Designers, entrepreneurs, and guests from different industries interacted over a curated menu and cocktails, turning the evening into a space for professional exchange as much as celebration. The informal atmosphere encouraged conversations and connections in a luxurious yet relaxed setting.

Guests responded warmly to the concept, with the idea of a fashion show on the sea drawing attention both at the venue and across social media.

With this presentation, Singapore’s fashion scene experienced a new take on event design. Runway on the Waves stepped away from the traditional stage and created a format where fashion met storytelling, setting a precedent for future shows that wish to go beyond the expected. As the Fu Ning remained lit against the skyline, it marked the close of an evening that combined style, vision, and possibility.
