Pioneer Indian pop star Prateek Kuhad set for Singapore show after seven years

Indian multilingual singer-songwriter Prateek Kuhad is returning to the Singapore after seven years following the success of his global tour across the USA, Europe and India.

‘The Way That Lovers Do’ Tour comes to Singapore on Saturday, April 15, at the Capitol Theatre. Kuhad says it is his most authentic album to date.

“I experimented with sounds and production techniques that I've never done before,” he added. “It really is exactly what I wanted to do.”

Born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Prateek learnt to play the guitar aged 16 and started songwriting in his late teens. He first rose to prominence when he won the iTunes Indian Indie Album of the Year Award in 2015. He has since gone on to establish himself as one of the most recognisable indie folk musicians from the subcontinent among international audiences, having toured across USA, Australia, Singapore, Canada and UK. In 2016, Prateek also won the award for Best Indian Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

For over a decade, Prateek Kuhad has been quietly carving out a unique role for himself as a globally recognised pop musician. The acoustic guitar is Kuhad's primary instrument while he also plays piano and electric guitar. His music leans towards Americana and folk genres with acoustic sounds and unconventional song structures for most parts.

The ‘Heartbreak Kid’ almost gave up writing love songs at one point. But when the pandemic hit in 2020, “that kind of forced me to slow down,” he said. “I realised I should just do what I want to do. There are no rules here.”

Prateek easily connects with fans across all ages and backgrounds with his seamless ability to sing in both Hindi and English. Praised by Rolling Stone India as “one of the country's leading singer-songwriters”, Prateek found a new wave of global recognition in 2019 when former President Barack Obama added the heartfelt breakup ballad “cold/mess” to his annual list of favorite songs.

Following his acclaimed 2021 Hindi EP, 'Shehron Ke Raaz', Kuhad released with his third studio album. The tour follows the release of Kuhad’s latest 11-track studio album ‘The Way That Lovers Do’ released last year in May via Elektra Records.

Best known for his intimate song writing, earnest lyricism and experimental flare, the 33-year- old global breakout star has earned comparisons to indie pioneers like Sufjan Stevens and Jose Gonzalez, Kuhad has generated universal praise for his pop and folk-driven songs about love and desire in all its forms. ‘The Way That Lovers Do’ continues this journey, looking at deep affection through the lens of romance and friendship.
