An Indian-origin physician named Dr Suman Khulbe has lost her licence to practise in Canada after she was found to have had sexual relations with a patient and to have hosted alcohol-drenched parties at her clinic.
Dr Khulbe was found to be in serious breach of the doctor-patient relationship protocol, following an investigation by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
The PIO doctor reportedly also viewed her patients as friends and formed emotional attachments with some of them, to the extent that it was considered a violation.
Her sexual misconduct occurred with one complainant, a gym trainer, who was Dr Khulbe’s patient in 2015. The trainer alleged that during the course of the treatment, while he was under the influence of procaine, an anaesthetic drug, the doctor performed sexual acts on him, “including oral sex, kissing, and manual stimulation”, as per media reports.
Reportedly, Dr Khulbe also hosted parties at her medical clinic, where alcohol was served and consumed, and the drug procaine was administered.
Following the loss of her licence — that could mean a medical career gap of five years — Dr Khulbe said that she would appeal the decision. During the investigation, she had admitted to her sexual relations with the gym trainer patient; however, she insisted that it was consensual.
The PIO doctor began practising family medicine in 2001 and later established her private clinic in Ontario, where she focused more on regenerative medicine.
