At least six people were injured on Tuesday when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near the Jaffar Express in Pakistan’s Sultankot area, close to the Sindh–Balochistan border, local media reported.

According to Dunya News, suspected militants planted explosives on the railway track, causing multiple coaches of the Quetta-bound train to derail.

The injured passengers, including a child, sustained minor wounds and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Security officials said the blast occurred as the train was passing near Sultan Kot. Rangers and police reached the site shortly after the explosion, while a bomb disposal squad collected evidence to determine the nature of the device.

An investigation into the attack is under way.

The Jaffar Express has faced repeated security incidents in recent months. Earlier this year, it was briefly hijacked by members of the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), and in August the service came under attack twice in separate incidents.
