US Vice President JD Vance on Thursday reacted to the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir and said he hopes Pakistan would cooperate with India in hunting down the terrorists involved in the incident.
He also hoped that India would respond to the incident carefully to avoid any broader regional conflict.
Speaking to Fox News, Vance, who was in India when the Pahalgam terror attack occurred, said: “Our hope here is that India responds to this terrorist attack in a way that doesn’t lead to a broader regional conflict.”
Vance pointed out that sometimes terrorists operate in Pakistani territories.
“We hope, frankly, that Pakistan, to the extent that they’re responsible, cooperates with India to make sure that the terrorists sometimes operating in their territory are hunted down and dealt with,” he said.
After the Pahalgam attack, JD Vance had called Indian PM Narendra Modi to condemn the incident.
Speaking on the conversation, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote: “Vice President @VP @JDVance called Prime Minister @narendramodi and strongly condemned the dastardly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. He conveyed his deepest condolences on the loss of lives and reiterated that the United States stands with the people of India in this difficult hour. He expressed that the United States is ready to provide all assistance in the joint fight against terrorism. PM thanked Vice President Vance and President Trump for their messages of support and solidarity.”
Vance also tweeted to condemn the incident.
He wrote: “Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack.”
Indian Minister warns
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday issued a stern warning following the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, declaring that India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, would deliver a precise and decisive response to any act of terrorism.
Sending out a clear message to terrorist groups, Shah said, “If anyone thinks that a cowardly attack is their victory, they must remember this is Narendra Modi’s India — and revenge will be taken, one by one.”
He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to eliminating terrorism entirely, saying, “It is our resolve to uproot terrorism from every inch of this country, and it will be accomplished.”
The Pahalgam terror attack, which left 25 tourists and one local dead, marked one of the most severe assaults on civilians in recent memory.
The assailants targeted Baisaran meadow — a picturesque but remote location accessible only via hike or pony trail — indicating deliberate planning.
