Pakistan minister warns of Indian strike within 36 hours, says action will have ‘catastrophic consequences’

Tensions between India and Pakistan have reached a critical point after Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar claimed that India is planning a military operation within the next 24 to 36 hours. In a video message posted around 3 am on Wednesday, April 30, Tarar said Pakistan has “credible intelligence-based information” about an imminent Indian offensive and warned of “catastrophic consequences” if India proceeds.

He stated that Pakistan will respond with full force and defend its sovereignty at all costs, asserting that any act of aggression by India will be met with a decisive reply.

This escalation comes just days after the brutal terrorist attack in Baisaran, near Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, where at least 26 civilians, mostly non-Muslims were killed.

India has blamed the attack on Pakistan-based terror groups, although Pakistan has denied any involvement.

In his message, Tarar accused India of using “baseless and concocted allegations” as a pretext for military action, rejecting what he called India’s habit of acting as “judge, jury, and executioner”.

This is in line with Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khwaja Asif’s claim. Asif recently said in an interview with Geo News that a war with India could happen “in two or three days”.

These remarks came as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi greenlit the armed forces to choose the mode, timing, and targets of the response to the Pahalgam massacre.

Modi had earlier vowed to hunt down the perpetrators and warned that India would pursue them to the “ends of the earth”.

India has already taken a series of diplomatic and strategic steps following the April 22 attack. Diplomatic ties with Pakistan have been downgraded, the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 has been suspended, all visas issued to Pakistani nationals have been revoked, and the Wagah-Attari border has been sealed.

In retaliation, Pakistan has closed its airspace for Indian flights.

Adding to the ongoing tension are continued ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control. As both nations harden their stance, the threat of military confrontation looms large over the Indian Subcontinent.
