NRI women safety cell inaugurated in Hyderabad

An NRI women safety cell was inaugurated by Director General of Police M Mahendar Reddy in Hyderabad on Wednesday to deal with matrimonial issues and grievances.

The cell, headed by IGP (Law & Order) Swati Lakra, will provide legal guidance with the support of NILA, an NGO for the aggrieved women in NRI marriages and will function from the Telangana Women Safety Wing office in Lakdi-ka-pul, Hyderabad.

The DGP said that the safety cell would be a platform to share the suffering of women who were being harassed by NRI spouses and relatives and to provide them with legal guidance.

“Stakeholders should work with a long-term goal and influence lawmakers in providing justice for victims,” said DGP Reddy at the inauguration, adding that “sensitisation of women should be taken up at the grassroots level to tackle problems like fake NRI marriages.”
