NEA offers incentives for de-registering older motorcycles

Owners of older and more pollutive motorcycles will be eligible for an incentive of up to S$3,500 if they de-register their vehicles over the next five years.

Offered by the National Environment Agency (NEA), the scheme aims to combat air pollution.

The agency said during a press briefing on Friday Apr 6 that eligible vehicles need to possess a valid 10-year Certificate of Entitlement as of that day, Yahoo News reported.

Owners who de-registered on or before 5 April 2023 will receive S$2,000. Whereas if the motorcycle’s COE is not renewed on or after 7 April 2018, the owner will receive an additional $1,500 upon its de-registration. They would also receive a rebate for the unused COE period. About 27,000 motorcycles are eligible for this incentive.

Owners of eligible motorcycles will receive a letter from NEA by end-April to inform them of the incentive. Motorcyclists may also log onto the onemotoring.com.sg website to check their vehicles’ first registration dates.

From June 30, 2028, the older motorcycles will be banned from Singapore roads.
