Mobike launches orange-painted bicycle parking areas in Singapore

To promote responsible user behaviour and give riders convenient access to bikes, bicycle sharing firm Mobike will roll out 1,000 parking areas in different areas of Singapore till the year end.

It has already launched the first 50 parking areas which can be found at university campuses, shopping centres and office blocks. These parking areas have been painted orange and marked with the Mobike logo. One can find these parking areas at National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University, Republic Polytechnic, Velocity@ Novena, United Square, OneKM Mall, 10 Raeburn Park and AMK Industrial Park.

Technology too has come in handy for locating these parking areas, christened ‘Mobike Preferred Locations’, through the company’s app. The company will also use technology to detect improperly parked bikes and remind users to move those bikes.

People have complained regarding improperly parked bikes causing obstruction. In this connection, several town councils such as Tampines and Sembawang have received feedback from people on shared bikes obstructing common areas like letterboxes and access points. Pictures and videos of vandalised bikes have also been circulating online.

It is hoped that launch of Mobike parking areas will promote responsible user behaviour among bicycle riders and provide respite to the people.
