Many Indian Bollywood stars, Modi in world's most admired list

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bollywood superstars Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan were among the world’s top 20 most admired men, according to an annual study by YouGov.

Among the world’s top 20 most admired women were Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen, according to the study.

Bill Gates is the world’s most admired man, while Michelle Obama is the world’s most admired woman. Right below Gates were Barrack Obama, Jackie Chan and Xi Jinping in the men’s list. In the list of admired women, Oprah Winfrey was the second most admired in the world followed by Angelina Jolie.

This year’s study expanded to cover the views of people in 41 countries – the most ever – with more than 42,000 people being interviewed to compile the list, YouGov said.

Indian actors Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan joined the top 20 this year. There were five new faces in the top 20 admired women: Melania Trump and Chinese singer Peng Liyuan, Chinese scientist Tu Youyou, Indian actress Sushmita Sen and US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. Indian actress Aishwarya Rai’s ranking this year moved down some five places to sixteenth.
