India’s official entry for the 2021 Academy Awards, Jallikattu, has failed to make it to the shortlist. The Malayalam film was chosen by the Film Federation of India as the country’s official entry for the International Feature Film category at the Oscars.

Jallikattu, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, was picked from among 27 Indian films, including Shakuntala Devi, Chhapaak, Chhalaang, Gulabo Sitabo and The Sky Is Pink.

However, the film failed to make the final shortlist of 15 films picked by the Academy out of a range of movies submitted from 93 countries.

The Academy on Tuesday announced the shortlist for nine categories, including International Feature Film, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film and Visual Effects. The rest of the shortlists will be announced on March 15.

The shortlist for the International Feature Film category is:

  • Czech Republic, Charlatan
  • Denmark, Another Round
  • France, Two Of Us
