Karisma Kapoor’s children move Delhi High Court over Sunjay Kapur’s INR 30,000 crore estate

A high-profile legal dispute has broken out in the Delhi High Court over the inheritance of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s vast personal estate, estimated to be worth nearly INR 30,000 crore (USD 3.4 billion). The matter has been brought to court by his two children, Samaira Kapoor and Kiaan Raj Kapoor, born from his previous marriage to Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor.

The children, represented legally through their mother, have accused Sunjay Kapur’s third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, of tampering with his will and attempting to claim the entire estate for herself.

According to the petition filed by the children, they have been in regular touch with their father and shared a close personal relationship with him. They reportedly spent time with him frequently, including visits to his residence in Rajokri, Delhi, where both had their own rooms.

The children also maintained contact through video calls, messages, and several WhatsApp groups. The petition mentions that Sunjay Kapur had visited them in Mumbai multiple times, and even met his daughter Samaira while she was studying in the United States, including visits to New York and Boston.

Sunjay and Karisma were married from 2003 to 2016, and after their divorce, their two children have lived with Karisma in Mumbai. Following Sunjay’s sudden death from a heart attack while playing polo in the UK, a will surfaced nearly seven weeks later, dated March 21, 2025.

This document reportedly transfers the entire personal estate of the late businessman to Priya Kapur, leaving out both children entirely. The children have now challenged the authenticity of this will, claiming it is forged and was produced after initial communication suggested there was no will at all.

Further adding to the concerns, it was revealed during the court proceedings that the will in question is not registered. Justice Jyoti Singh of the Delhi High Court raised serious questions regarding why the will had not been shared earlier with the children or their representatives. The Court has directed Priya Kapur to submit a complete declaration of all movable and immovable assets belonging to Sunjay Kapur as of June 12, 2025.

In response to the children’s claim for their rightful share, Priya Kapur had earlier alleged that Karisma Kapoor and her children had already received assets worth INR 1,900 crore (USD 215,566,210). However, sources close to the matter have denied this, stating that control of these assets remains with Priya under the RK Family Trust, and the children have no independent access to them, as reported by IANS.

The situation has also been complicated by the involvement of Sunjay Kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur, who reportedly sent over 15 emails to Priya Kapur requesting information about the will but received no reply. These unanswered communications have been viewed by the court as further cause for concern, raising questions about transparency in the handling of the estate.

As the legal case unfolds, Karisma Kapoor’s children have demanded one-fifth of Sunjay Kapur’s property each, arguing that as his biological children and legal heirs, they are entitled to a share of his estate.
